How do I become a Geologist?

I want to work on Excavation sites with Archeologists. But, I need to know what kind of Degree I need and how long it will take. I am wanting a higher paid job and also looking for a more Advanced Degree(Not Teacher) in this Field for a better chance at positions. I just don't know where to start and how high of a degree I do need and what I don't need. Please, if you could help me that would be great! I am entering my Senior Year of High School next year and Have been Wanting this kind of Job since I was 5! So, I need to start planning and help would be much Appreciated. Thank You!
