Why are dinosaurs relatively "unimportant" for geologists and palaeontologists in general?

they aren't unimportant, but aren't as consequential as other factors, to a paleontologist fossils of dinosaurs are as important as the fossil pollens spores found in sediments around the dinosaur. this allows them to see a bigger picture of what the environment may have been like.
