Who is Right? - Argument about Dinosaurs?

So me and my friend were having a debate on the existence of dinosaurs. He is convinced that they existed, but I told him that they were disproved in the 90's, when geologists discovered that "dinosaur skeletons" are actually just coincidentally bone-like rock formations. Doesn't anyone else remember this or is my crazy friend actually right?!
