WOULD A RADIOISOTOPE WITH A LONGER HALF LIFE BE MORE USEFUL FOR A GEOLOGIST THAN ONE WITH A SHORTER HALF LIFE?

Depends on the age of the sample. Carbon 14 is great as a quick, dependable filter. If there is any C14, it is geologically "recent". But plutonium would be almost too long a half life for a specimen from the late cretaceous.
